Crete is a province of Greece, although the Cretans would tell you otherwise. It is the fifth-largest island in the Mediterranean and is the home to the father figure of Greek mythology. According to legend, Zeus was spirited away to Mount Idi before his father; the Titan Cronos could devour him as there was a prophecy that said Cronos' children would overthrow him and the Titans.
Crete is a land of enchantment with 8,000+ foot mountains in the east and lowlands in the west. Knossos, the ancient city of the Minoans, was founded on Crete and is one of the oldest remaining cities in the world going back 4,000 years. Crete is also one of the most popular vacation destinations for people from all over the world.
